Parallel Lines

Blog 9 - Production Records

I somehow came along with knowledge about photography even though I have not got my camera yet. When shooting any project before this film opens, I tend to grab a camera and shoot immediately without thinking about what I am doing; instead, I improvise. However, due to the time restriction of the rough cut screening, I learnt an essential skill- making a shot list in this project.

⬅️ This is the shot list that I've created.

I have realised the importance of the shot list as we shortened the time for primary photography down to only 2 hours since we do not have to argue about what shot to use. The first attempt without a shot list was an absolute disaster since we spent a whole afternoon shooting, and none of the shots connected.

Regarding the equipment, I had to thank Danny's mom for buying him a Cannon EOS R5.

That helps a lot with the slow-motion filming since it's capable of recording 4k120p.

HOWEVER, THAT RF35 1.8 SHALL BURN IN HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I absolutely hate 35mm lenses. as they are either not wide enough or it's long enough. For some reason, Danny has an RF100-400 and an RF35 which is an extremely weirdo combination. My standard lens is an EF24-105, which I adapt to an EOS R6mark II, it is not good enough to support R5 in terms of recording high-quality footage, so I have to keep up with that 35mm, unfortunately.

Apart from the R5, we used a LED light by Yongnuo and a DJI RSC2⬅️ to film most of the footage.

I've also learnt that, after filming a shot, wait a few seconds before you hit pause so that you don't encounter difficulties while editing that your footage is not long enough. You have to spend more time messing around with the footage to cover the mistake you could avoid.

The most annoying thing on the earth is that YOUR CAMERA IS NOT FOCUSING ON THE RIGHT SPOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

➡️The shot right here you see is a shot that loses the focus. For some reason, Cannon decided that he's going to focus on the wall behind Lewis and we are running out of bananas as we can't take any more attempts. Due to time issues, we can't refilm the clip before this blog is submitted, so perhaps I have to learn manual focus in the future just in case Cannon is messing around. This is definitely the scene that I'm looking forward to refilm.

To sum up, I do think we have done a good job recording good and stable footage, and I get a lot more comfortable using gimbals. I might want to learn more about using light as they are essential part of photography.
